From June 23rd-June 30th, The Miracle Project and Artists and Scientists as Partners (ASaP) of Brown University, in partnership with The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and Music School, Bailey’s Team, and Community Autism Resources (CAR) hosted a summer camp for more than 25 children, youth and adults on the autism spectrum and their typically developing siblings and peers.
The camp also served as a training and pilot for a full-year The Miracle Project-New England (TMP-NE) scheduled to begin in 2018 with The Rhode Island Music School as its permanent home.
The project was staffed by The Miracle Project Los Angeles Team - Elaine Hall, Zachary Marsh, and Ryan Berman. Local professionals shadowed them and will lead TMP-NE along with a team of local artists, autism support specialists, and volunteers who were also present at the camp.
Each day at camp was lively and joyous with participants working together building relationships across disappearing boundaries. On the final day, families and friends were invited to an Open House where every participant had something to share.
The future looks bright for TMP-NE. In 2018, there will be weekly sessions at the Music School and Brown University has applied to the National Endowment for the Arts for a grant to study the impact of The Miracle Project on participants. TMP-NE also hopes to host more summer camps in the coming years.
